EMPL recently started using two new manufacturing buildings at the Kaltenbach and Uderns sites, as an enormous expansion of its production capacities for manufacturing vehicles for the Tyrolean market.
This step is part of the company's long term plan to focus more strongly on its customers in Tyrol so it can continue supplying them with special-purpose solutions of the usual high quality.
In addition to creating capacities for manufacturing domestic commercial vehicles, the objective of this investment is also to optimise the production processes and to support customers with an improved service. This is an important step towards improving the company's ability to react to customer requirements and the increasing demand for customised special superstructures from the local market.
Continuous investments were made in the local market in recent years, whether by expanding the service and repair centre in Hall or by building the EMPL Academy at the Kaltenbach site. The company's participation in the world's largest trade fair for construction machines, BAUMA in Munich, also underlines the relevance of the commercial vehicles industry at EMPL.
Investments in recent years
The service site in Hall was already expanded with a new 880 m² workshop in 2015. The separation into a “black repair/service area” (e.g. construction vehicles) and a “white repair/service area” (e.g. food distribution vehicles, fire fighting) provided a clear improvement of the processes.
Additional conversions and investments in new machinery followed between 2016 and 2018, including a welding robot system and a fully automated bending cell at the main plant in Kaltenbach. With the “EMPL Academy”, which started up in September 2016, the company made a forward looking investment in the education and training of its employees and in training facilities for its customers.
To underline the importance of the regional commercial vehicles for EMPL, the company exhibited at the BAUMA trade fair in the spring of 2019 – for the first time in 20 years.
The new production buildings, especially for the local commercial vehicle market, were another strong signal for the Tyrolean market. Overall, the investment for both buildings was around 2.8 million euros, which also created additional jobs in the region.
In recent years, turnover increased substantially, ever new markets were opened up successfully and existing markets were expanded. In 2019, the Empl group of companies achieved a turnover of approx. 135 million euros with around 560 employees in Austria and Germany.
